The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) recently approved a stipulated agreement to install new automatic warning devices and circuitry and complete minor approach improvements at a BNSF Railway Co. grade crossing near Fowler.
The total estimated cost of the signal design and construction of the crossing on County Road 1700 North is $393,722. ICC staff recommended that the Grade Crossing Protection Fund (GCPF) be used to pay 95% of the signal design and construction costs, not to exceed $374,036. BNSF will pay the remaining 5% to design and install the new automatic warning devices and cover future maintenance costs of the signals and circuitry, according to an ICC press release.
The ICC also approved a stipulated agreement to install new automatic warning devices at an Illinois Central Railroad crossing at County Road 2300 North near Danforth. The cost of the signal design and installation is $365,106. ICC staff recommended that the GCPF be used to pay 95% of the signal design and construction costs, not to exceed $346,851. Owned by CN, the IC will pay the remaining 5% and cover future maintenance costs of the signals and circuitry.
In addition, the ICC approved a stipulated agreement to install new automatic warning devices and circuitry and complete approach improvements at the IC crossing at 300th Street near Latham. The estimated cost of the signal design and installation is $373,631. ICC staff recommended that the GCPF be used to pay 95% of the signal design and construction costs, not to exceed $354,949. IC will pay the remaining 5% and cover future maintenance costs of the signals and circuitry.
All three projects are to be completed within 18 months from the ICC's order dates.
