NorthPoint Development recently assumed the role of lead developer of Logistics Park Kansas City in Edgerton, Kan., replacing The Allen Group. The new 1,000-acre industrial business park will be located next to BNSF Railway Co.'s new intermodal facility, which is under construction and scheduled to open in fall.
A tri-party agreement between BNSF, the city of Edgerton and The Allen Group transferred the master developer responsibility to NorthPoint and advanced the park's construction start date to Aug. 1. A new entity, Edgerton Land Holding Co., was formed by The Allen Group and NorthPoint.
The Allen Group was selected in 2006 to develop warehouses and distribution facilities at Logistics Park Kansas City. More than 8 million square feet of distribution space is expected to be built at the park under a first phase.
BNSF's intermodal facility at Logistics Park Kansas City is designed to initially handle 500,000 containers annually. Future expansions would increase annual capacity to 1.5 million units.
The Class I's current intermodal terminal at Argentine yard in Kansas City, Kan., was designed to handle 285,000 containers annually and last year logged 330,000 units.
