Roberts to succeed Hill as BNSF's top mechanical officer; Class I reassigns other execs

BNSF Railway Co. has named Chris Roberts vice president of mechanical and value engineering to succeed Craig Hill, who will retire on Jan. 20.

Most recently regional VP-South Region, Roberts and Hill will be transitioning the top mechanical post’s duties during the next several weeks. Since joining BNSF in 1975, Roberts and has held various positions, including assistant VP of transportation, AVP of intermodal operations and AVP-operations south.

Hill joined the Class I 10 years ago as VP and chief mechanical officer. He assumed responsibility for value engineering in 2002.

Meanwhile, BNSF named Robert Lease regional VP-South Region to succeed Roberts and Jeff Wright, regional VP-Central Region to succeed Lease.  In addition, the railroad appointed Sanford Sexhus regional VP-North Region.

Most recently general manager of the Powder River Division, Sexhus began his BNSF career in 1994. He since has held various positions, including trainmaster, superintendent and AVP of unit train operations. BNSF expects to name Sexhus’ successor in the near future.
