Halfway through 2008's first month, developments continue to abound in the rail supply industry:

• North American Technologies Group Inc. announced Chief Financial Officer Mahesh Shetty resigned and a search for a new CFO is under way. The company — which owns composite crosstie supplier TieTek — also promoted Rod Wallace to vice president of manufacturing and named Dennis Guth VP of sales and marketing.

• RailComm Inc. has supplied a wireless remote-control derail system for CSX Transportation's Willard Car Shop in Ohio. The system features blue strobe lights to indicate derail status, a centrally located push-button control panel and derail protection circuitry to prevent derails while a train is in a protection zone.

• Optelecom-NKF Inc. has deployed its S-44 video server as part of major subway system projects in China, France and Spain. The S-44 features four Texas Instrument Digital Signal Processing (DSP) development tools on a single board. Each DSP can simultaneously transmit two MPEG and one JPEG video streams, and make each channel available for simultaneous recording, live viewing and screen capture.

• The Knorr-Bremse Group reported 2007 sales totaling $4.8 billion, a 4.1 percent increased compared with 2006's total. Significant sales growth in Europe, South America and Asia offset a decline in North America, where stricter OEM truck market emission regulations reduced sales, the company said. However, the North American rail vehicle division posted a 1.5 percent year-over-year sales increase. Knorr-Bremse provides braking systems for rail and commercial vehicles.
