Invensys plc's Invensys Rail Group (IRG) has acquired Quantum Engineering Inc. from Quantum management. Terms weren't disclosed.

Quantum Engineering, which specializes in onboard equipment, provides various signaling and train-control products, including recorders, alerters, indicators, speed controllers and end-of-train telemetry.

The acquisition will increase IRG's profile in the U.S. railroad aftermarket business and foster additional sales opportunities, Invensys plc said. IRG — which also owns Safetran Systems Corp. — plans to market Quantum's technology globally and integrate Quantum's products within its train-control product portfolio.

"There is now a clear migration from trackside to onboard train signaling, a trend which is now gathering pace," Invensys plc officials said in a prepared statement. "We can see great opportunities to bring Quantum's technical solutions for the benefit of our customers on a global basis."
