Amsted Rail's IONX L.L.C. has signed a letter of intent to acquire Salco Technologies L.L.C., a Salco Products Inc. subsidiary that provides telematics systems to the chemical shipping industry.
 
The acquisition will enable IONX to extend the reach of its Edge asset-monitoring system to chemical shippers. Salco Technologies' EverSee2 telematics system currently is installed on rail cars and containers controlled by some of the nation's largest chemical shippers.
 
"This acquisition is a step toward our goal of providing the rail industry with world-class telematics and condition monitoring solutions," said IONX Vice President and General Manager Pat Ameen in a prepared statement.
