• Rail Polska will install the Timken Co.'s Timken® TracGlide® top-of-rail friction management system on M62 six-axle locomotives in Poland. Installations will begin in November. The TracGlide system is designed to automatically dispense a thin liquid or friction modifier to the top of the rail as a locomotive moves across track. The system can reduce rail wear, increase productivity and provide energy savings, Timken said.

• Thales Group won a contract from Santiago, Chile, metro operator Empresa de Transporte de Pasajeros Metro S.A. to provide an automatic train supervision system and modular interlocking system. Thales will install its LockTrac 6172 PMI interlocking system to improve signaling control on two metro lines. The Santiago metro operator expects to extend two lines by 2009's end and complete an additional extension by 2010's end.

• FreightCar America Inc. announced Chief Financial Officer Kevin Bagby will step down Nov. 3 to accept a position at another firm. He has served as vice president of finance, CFO and treasurer since November 2004. FreightCar America currently is searching for Bagby's successor.

• Rail consulting firm Interfleet Technology appointed Tony Brownbill head of strategy and policy in the London office. He has 14 years of various rail industry experience gained at the London Underground, HSBC Rail, EC Harris, Strategic Rail Authority and Department for Transport.
