Tomorrow, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will hold a citizens’ informational workshop to review proposed changes to a grade crossing in Kannapolis.

NCDOT plans to build a grade separation near an existing crossing and close a crossing at Rogers Lake and Winecoff School roads.Slated to begin in 2012, the proposed project calls for building a bridge so a road runs either above or below two tracks and Main Street to eliminate highway/rail conflicts, NCDOT officials said in a meeting notice.

The project is part of a statewide effort to reduce the number of redundant or unsafe crossings, they said.

NCDOT representatives will answer questions about and obtain public feedback on the proposed project at the meeting. The department initially held a workshop for a Rogers Lake Road crossing improvement project in July 2009.
