Kentucky seeks federal dollars to help fund upgrades at 19 crossings

Kentucky officials are seeking Federal Highway Administration
approval to use $3.35 million in federal funds to help pay for
upgrades at 19 grade crossings.

The state plans to install crossing gates, flashing lights and bells
at 13 CSX Transportation crossings and two Paducah & Louisville
Railway Co. (PAL) crossings.

Kentucky officials also would install gates at four crossings that
already feature warning lights and bells: a CN/IC crossing in
Arlington, a PAL crossing near Pleasure Ridge Park, a RJ Corman
Railroad crossing in Auburn and KRM crossing in Nelsonville.

The state plans to complete all upgrades next year. During the past
two years, Kentucky has obtained more than $8 million in federal
funding to improve crossing safety.
