Yesterday, MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) officials began rolling out 98 additional weekly round trips on the L Line.

An additional 16 round trips will be added each weekday, eleven round trips on Saturday and seven round trips on Sunday, NYCT officials said in a prepared statement.

“This is a perfect example of how our commitment of capital dollars to improve our signal system directly impacts the safety and quality of our service,” said NYCT President Thomas Prendergast. “As a result of fully integrating communications-based train control (CBTC) on the L Line, customers will have the added benefit of more trains that will help to ease overcrowding on a line that services continuously growing populations in Brooklyn.”

CBTC has enabled NYCT to run additional trains per hour, agency officials said. For example, during the weekday morning rush hour, riders can expect a train ever three minutes, up from every 3.5 minutes.
