The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio recently authorized upgrades at two grade crossings.

Norfolk Southern Railway
will install a cantilever at a crossing in Toledo, and R.J. Corman Railroad Co.'s Western Ohio Lines will install mast-mounted flashing lights, cantilevered lights, a set of sidelights and roadway gates at a crossing in Celina.

R.J. Corman must complete the work by Aug. 7, 2013. Funding for the upgrade will be covered by federal dollars.

Meanwhile, the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission approved the allocation of $20,000 from the state's Grade Crossing Protective Fund to pay for upgrades to a crossing in Oakesdale, Wash.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) plans to use the funds to install two shoulder-mounted LED flashing lights and gates, replace a relay case with a bungalow and replace all underground signal cable.

WSDOT will cover the remainder of the project's cost, which is estimated at $58,200. The work must be completed by June 30, 2013.
