The city of Pascagoula, Miss., recently agreed to help fund a feasibility study on creating quiet zones in the area.

Stantec Inc. will evaluate eight grade crossings in the city and identify necessary improvements to establish quiet zones. Work might include signal improvements or the addition of crossing lights and gate arms.

Meanwhile, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) has approved construction authorization directing Norfolk Southern Railway to upgrade a crossing in Columbus.

To be completed by May 22, 2014, the work calls for upgrading eight-inch incandescent lights to 12-inch lights at the Weber Road crossing.

Funding for the project will be shared by NS and PUCO.
