The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) earlier this week approved construction authorization directing three railroads to improve grade crossings in Carroll, Coshocton and Cuyahoga counties.

The Columbus & Ohio River Railroad will install mast-mounted flashing lights and roadway gates at the County Road 254 crossing in Oxford Township. Work must be completed by March 12, 2014.

Meanwhile, the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway Co. is charged with installing warning lights and gates at the State Route 212 crossing in Carroll County by June 12, 2014. Funding will be shared by PUCO, the railroad and Ohio Rail Development Commission.

In addition, Flats Industrial Railroad Co. will upgrade eight-inch incandescent lights to 12-inch LED lights at the Columbus Road crossing in Cleveland. The project also must be completed by June 12, 2014.
