Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) crews earlier this week completed installation of an upgraded automatic train control (ATC) system between St. Patrick and Dupont subway stations, restoring full service on the line ahead of schedule.
The nine month process to upgrade the section to a modern signaling system included installation of more than 100,000 feet of cables and over 500 trackside components, according to a TTC press release.
With the completion of this installation, Line 1 from Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Station to St. Patrick runs on the ATC system.
Portions of the TTC’s signal system date to the 1950s. The upgraded system on the line is expected to reduce signal-related delays associated with the older fixed-block signaling system, officials said.
TTC will continue to install ATC systems on other parts of the line, they said.
