PUCO approves funds to improve NS, short-line grade crossings

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) this week approved more than $600,000 in funding to upgrade safety devices at grade crossings in Licking and Columbiana counties.

The Columbus and Ohio River Railroad will install flashing lights and gates at the East Church Street and East Main Street grade crossings in Newark, Licking County, by July 5, 2023. The commission is providing $541,211 in federal funding, commission officials said in a press release.

Norfolk Southern Railway will upgrade existing lighting to LEDs at the Main Street and South Elm Street grade crossings in Columbiana, Columbiana County, by July 5, 2023. The commission is providing $57,372 in federal funding.
