Ohio approves grade crossing projects on NS, IORY lines

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) yesterday announced it approved safety upgrades at grade crossings in Butler, Fayette and Warren counties.

Norfolk Southern Railway will install flashing lights and gates with traffic preemption at the Augspurger Road crossing in New Miami, Butler County. Federal funds will cover $415,904 of the project's cost.

Meanwhile, the Indiana & Ohio Railway (IORY) will install flashing lights and gates at the West Temple Street crossing in Washington Court House in Fayette County. Federal funds totaling $347,777 will pay for the work.

IORY also will install flashing lights and gates and reconstruct surfaces at the Gustin Rider Road/County Road 187 crossing in Warren County. Federal funds will cover the total cost of the flashing lights and gates for the $353,444 project. The Ohio Rail Development Commission will pay a total of $318,317, while IORY will provide $35,126 for the upgrades.

Work on all three projects must be completed by Nov. 16, 2024.
