RailComm installs wireless automation system at UP yard

RailComm Inc. recently installed a wireless remote control and yard automation system at Union Pacific Railroad's Livonia Yard in Addis, La. Designed to control the trim pullback and departure tracks on the yard's south end, the system features RailComm's server-based Domain Operation Controller (DOC®) to provide individual switch control and entrance-exit routing functions.

The supplier established a point-to-point wireless data communication network to link the DOC server to 19 existing power switch machines and associated train-detection equipment. RailComm also created a separate point-to-point high-speed data radio link to enable the system to be controlled from two separate workstations.
