Rail Runner to implement quiet zones at six crossings

advertisement

This week, the New Mexico Department of Transportation and Mid-Region Council of Governments began making improvements to the first of six grade crossings in the north valley area that have been designated for quiet zones.

The agencies, which operate the Rail Runner Express commuter-rail line, currently are installing a new median featuring an “unmountable curb” designed to prevent motorists from going around a crossing gate.

Rail Runner officials expect train horn noise at the six crossings “to be minimized by the end of the year.”
