Yesterday, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) released preliminary details for the third international conference on communications-based train control (CBTC) and train efficiency, which will be held for the first time in the United States.

Hosted in partnership with the International Union of Railways, Federal Railroad Administration, Transportation Research Board and Transportation Technology Center Inc. (TTCI), the event will he held April 30-May 1, 2012, at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.

The two-day conference will address CBTC systems, particularly I-ETMS (an interoperable positive train-control system) and the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS), as well as communication standards, interoperability issues and related train-efficiency management systems, AAR officials said in a prepared statement. Conference participants also will be able to attend an optional field trip to TTCI’s research and testing facilities in Pueblo, Colo., on May 2.

The two previous international train control conferences were held in Istanbul, Turkey, in 2008 and in Tokyo, Japan, in 2010.
