On July 11, Kansas City Southern closed a grade crossing in Tallulah, La., which averaged 7,300 vehicle crossings annually.
To date, the railroad has closed one private and two public crossings. During the next three months, the Class I plans to close 62 private crossings on the Kansas City Southern and Texas Mexican railways.
In addition, KCS representatives are negotiating with local officials to close another 165 public crossings systemwide. KCS also has a “stringent” approval process to limit new crossings, according to a prepared statement.
