The Spanish Ministry of Development recently awarded a $280.6 million contract to an Alcatel/Dimetronic S.A. consortium to install and maintain a signaling system for the 96-mile Córdoba-Málaga high-speed line.

The companies will provide electronic interlocking and automatic train protection systems, as well as a fixed and mobile GSM-R telecommunications system.

Alcatel will install its 6151 LockTrac electronic interlocking system, power supply systems, and several detection systems and buildings to house the technical equipment. The company also will be responsible for designing, building and installing an optical transport network based on its Optical Multi-Service Node systems equipped with Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet functions.

Designed to carry voice, video and data services, the platform will provide connectivity between all of the rail line installations, according to a prepared statement.
