Alcatel Transport Automation Solutions recently obtained a $37.8 million contract from the Spanish Transport Ministry to install train routing and communication systems for a section of the Tarragona-Barcelona-France rail line.

Alcatel will design, deliver and install the systems for the 40.4-mile double-tracked La Sagrera-to-Massanet line. The company will install eight 6151 LockTrac/INTERSIG L905 E electronic interlocking systems and a two-way automatic block system, which will increase capacity and improve safety, according to a prepared statement.

Alcatel also will install its 6206 FieldTrack, signals, point machines, an automatic train protection system, high-frequency track circuits, power supply systems and cabling. In addition, the supplier will provide an optical transport network based on its Optical Multi-Service Node systems.
