Rail News: Communication and Signal
Hong Kong’s Mass Transit Railway Corp. (MTRC) recently contracted Andrew Corp. to modify communications infrastructure in stations, tunnels and other buildings.
The upgrade will enable the railway to switch from a conventional 80 MHz trunk radio system to an 800 MHz terrestrial trunked radio system, a mobile radio standard often used by public safety and emergency workers. The radio upgrade will support more advanced communication functions, such as individual call, group call with flexible grouping and digital data transmission.
Andrew will design and manufacture the system components, install the system, and provide training to MTRC staff. The firm also will provide maintenance services.
