Through its subsidiary Union Switch & Signal International, Ansaldo STS has signed a 10-year industrial and commercial collaboration agreement with China’s Zhejiang Zheda Insigma Group Co. Ltd., which specializes in application software and information technology networks. The partners will provide mass transit signaling control systems throughout China.

Their first project: developing a signal system for the Shenyang Metro Line Co.’s 17.4-mile Line 1. Under its $10 million portion of the contract, Ansaldo STS will complete part of the work and provide Insigma a license to use key components of its communication-based train control system.

During the next five years, China plans to build more than 600 miles of metropolitan rail lines.
