The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is working with BNSF Railway Co. to install warning devices at two grade crossings in Surprise. The work is part of a continuing effort to improve U.S. Highway 60, or Grand Avenue.
Crossings at Greenway Road and 163rd Avenue in Surprise will be equipped with advanced detection devices designed to provide vehicles and pedestrians more time to clear an intersection. The devices will interface with the crossings’ traffic signals. The 163rd Avenue crossing is designated as a quiet zone.
The installation of the devices will be performed in coordination with BNSF, which operates a line along Grand Avenue, ADOT officials said in a prepared statement.
