The Buckingham Branch Railroad Co. recently signed a long-term service agreement with RailComm Inc. to access the Domain Operations Controller (DOC(r)) train-control system through a Web-enabled Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) delivery model.

The 217-mile central Virginia short line uses the DOC system for both centralized traffic control and dark territory train-control functions.

RailComm recently began offering the SaaS delivery model to provide easier access to DOC, which can control dispatch services, crew management, remote control of trains, power switches and any electro-mechanical device.

The DOC system features built-in expansion capabilities for adding workstations and/or field control points without interrupting a current system's operation. Control application resides on servers at RailComm's data center, reducing the need for local information technology support at each railroad, RailComm said.
