California construction authority seeks bids for L.A.-area grade separation

The Alameda Corridor-East Construction Authority (ACE) is accepting bids for the Puente Avenue grade separation in Industry, Calif. Bids are due May 21.

Estimated to cost $40 million to $50 million, the project calls for lowering Puente Avenue beneath a Union Pacific Railroad line. A bridge will be constructed over Puente Avenue for Valley Boulevard.

The project also involves the installation of steel girders for the UP structure, roadway excavation of a concrete structure for the Valley Boulevard bridge, street lighting, landscaping and irrigation, storm drain realignment and other work.

The project is part of an ACE program involving grade separations along the Alameda Corridor-East Trade Corridor, which accommodates about 60 percent of the containers moved from the nation's busiest ports in the Los Angeles area to the rest of the nation via rail. UP's mainline on the corridor is one of the busiest U.S. rail lines and the number of trains operating on the route daily is projected to increase significantly by 2025.
