The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio last week approved construction authorization from the Ohio Rail Development Commission directing CSX Transportation to improve three grade crossings.

The Class I will install mast-mounted flashing lights and roadway gates at the Township Road 96/Taylor Road crossing in Auglaize County, County Road 109/Barners Road crossing in Hancock County and Township Road 56/Arendt Road crossing in Seneca County.

CSX must complete the work by July 30, 2014. Project funding will be covered by federal dollars.

Meanwhile, the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is seeking public input on the proposed replacement of an existing signal system with new electronics and the addition of gates at the Indian Creek Road crossing in Townsend.

Tentatively slated to start in spring 2014, the project also includes the installation of a concrete crossing surface.

MDT plans to complete the project in conjunction with Montana Rail Link. The department will fund the upgrades and the railroad will perform the work.
