Denver RTD to remove flaggers along G Line

The Regional Transportation District of Denver (RTD) has obtained initial approval from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) to remove grade crossing attendants, or flaggers, at all 16 crossings along the 11-mile G Line from Denver to Wheat Ridge, Colorado. 

Denver Transit Partners (DTP), which operates the line for RTD, will start removing the flaggers in a phased approach after RTD receives formal written approval from the FRA and the Colorado Public Utilities Commission. The approval could come as early as next week, RTD officials said in a press release. 

While flaggers will no longer be stationed at each crossing on a routine basis and wireless crossing-gate technology will be employed, RTD and DTP might reinstate flaggers as an added safety measure if conditions dictate, agency officials said.
