The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) recently approved multiple upgrades to improve grade crossing safety in Clark County.
New automatic warning signals will be installed and approach grades will be improved at the County Road 1900E, Baystown Road and North 1400th Street crossings, according to an ICC press release.
The total estimated cost for the warning signals at the three crossings is $1,237,218. The state's Grade Crossing Protection Fund (GCPF) will cover 95% of the cost, not to exceed $1,175,358. CSX will be responsible for the remainder of the projects' cost, as well as for future signal and circuitry maintenance.
The total estimated cost of the proposed highway approach rehabilitation is $637,880, which will be covered by the GCPF. The townships will be responsible for maintenance of the highway approaches in their respective jurisdictions. The work must be completed within 18 months from the order date, ICC officials said.
