Illinois panel approves multiple crossing upgrades

The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) approved a stipulated agreement to install new automated warning devices at the Seminary Street North Wye, Seminary Street South Wye Track and S. Chambers Street grade crossings in Galesburg.

The combined total estimated cost of the signal design and installation is $997,822, according to a news release. ICC staff recommended that the Grade Crossing Protection Fund (GCPF) be used to pay 95% of the signal design and construction costs, not to exceed $947,926. BNSF Railway Co. will pay the remaining 5% and cover all future maintenance costs for the signals and circuitry.

The ICC also approved a stipulated agreement to install new automated warning devices and other public safety improvements at multiple crossings in Marion County.

The total estimated cost of the signal design and installations at three crossings is $1,512,762. ICC staff recommended that the GCPF be used to pay 95% of the signal design and construction costs, not to exceed $1,437,124. Illinois Central Railroad/CN will pay the remaining 5% and cover all future maintenance costs for the signals and circuitry.
