Madrid Metro contracts Bombardier to install signal systems

Bombardier Transportation recently obtained two signaling orders totaling $135 million from Madrid Metro to provide CITYFLO 450 communication-based automatic train control system for two lines.

Bombardier will supply, install, test and maintain the system along 25 miles and at 54 stations, as well as for the lines’ 117 trains, electronic interlockings and control rooms.

During the project’s first phase, Bombardier will interface the new system with Metro’s existing signal system. Bombardier then will replace the existing equipment with jointless track circuits, electro-hydraulic point machines and light-emitting diode signals.

The project is scheduled to take more than two years to complete.
