Madrid Infraestructuras del Transporte recently awarded a $73.9 million contract to an ALSTOM-led consortium to supply and maintain signaling equipment for the city’s four new light-rail lines.

Under its haf share of the contract, ALSTOM will provide trackside and train-borne signaling equipment, and maintain the system for three years.

Construction on the lines — which will connect Madrid to north and west suburbs — is scheduled be complete in 2007.

In August, ALSTOM obtained a $191 million contract to supply 70 CITADIS vehicles for the system.
