Metro-North to improve infrastructure on New Canaan Branch

MTA Metro-North Railroad will continue fiber-optic installation work this weekend on the New Canaan Branch as part of a complete signal system upgrade.

A fiber-optic system needs to be in place to support support positive train control operations on the branch, Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials said in a press release.

During installation there will be a service outage to the New Canaan Branch that will allow Metro-North crews to also resurface track in an effort to remove a speed restriction, cut and trim vegetation around the track, and weld track, they said.

The branch on Metro-North's New Haven Line runs from downtown Stamford to New Canaan, Connecticut.
