North Carolina DOT schedules public meeting on proposed crossing closure

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) plans to hold a public meeting April 24 to review proposed safety improvements to a grade crossing in La Grange.

NCDOT proposes to close Waters Mill Road where it meets the Norfolk Southern Railway and North Carolina Railroad Co. crossing. Nearby Beverly Road and Willie Measly Road crossings would serve as alternate crossings, NCDOT officials said in a meeting notice.

The proposed closure is part of a statewide effort to reduce the number of crossings that register a high number of accidents or are redundant.

NCDOT also proposes to close the median at the intersection of Washington Street and U.S. Highway 70, and build a connector road between Washington Street and Willie Measley Road in La Grange.
