Ohio commission approves crossing upgrade

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) recently approved an agreement with the Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC), CSX Transportation and Logan County to install flashing lights and gates at a grade crossing in the county.
CSXT must submit site plans and cost estimates to PUCO by Nov. 29, and complete construction by August 31, 2012. Funding for the project will be shared by PUCO, ORDC and CSXT.
PUCO is responsible for evaluating Ohio’s public crossings to determine the need for active warning devices. Last year, the commission played a role in the installation of lights and gates at 72 crossings statewide.
