The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio recently approved construction authorization from the Ohio Rail Development Commission directing three railroads to upgrade four grade crossings in Fayette, Licking and Stark counties.

The Indiana & Ohio Railway will install mast-mounted flashing lights and roadway gates at the Millikan Avenue crossing in Washington Courthouse; Columbus & Ohio River Railroad will install flashing lights and gates at the Union Station Road/County Road 135 and Canyon Road/Township Road 137 crossings in Union Township; and Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway Co. will install flashing lights and gates at the Tuscarawas Street crossing in Navarre.

The railroads must complete upgrades by June 11, 2014. Funding for the work will be covered by federal dollars.
