RailComm adds remote-control functions to Alton & Southern's yard automation system

The Alton & Southern Railway Co. recently added remote-control functions to a RailComm Inc.-supplied Domain Operations Controller (DOC®) system installed at the bowl end of the switching railroad’s yard.

Using remote personal computer workstations, Alton & Southern workers can control yard operations from different locations simultaneously. The workstations can independently monitor and control nine switch machines featuring liquid emitting diode position indicators and point protection.

RailComm will provide switch position annunciators designed to determine the switch position and relay the information to the DOC system, which will display the indicated position. The DOC system also will feature entrance-exit and stacked routing capability.

In addition, RailComm will establish a point-to-multi-point wireless data communications network using its RADiANT™ data radio technology.
