The Illinois Commerce Commission recently approved Union Pacific Railroad’s plans to improve three grade crossings in West Frankfort.
To be completed by August 2009, the $518,018 project calls for installing automatic flashing lights and gates.
The state of Illinois will pay 90 percent of the project’s cost through the Grade Crossing Protection Fund. UP will pay the remainder and maintain the active warning devices.
