USDOT provides Louisiana $53 million to repair hurricane-damaged signals

The U.S. Department of Transportation recently granted Louisiana an additional $53 million to help fund the restoration of railroad signals damaged by Hurricane Katrina, as well as highway and bridge repairs. So far, the department has provided the state more than $1 billion in post-storm aid.

Louisiana continues to repair railroad signals in Orleans, Jefferson and Plaquemines parishes, fix an Interstate 10 bridge, and rebuild traffic signals, highway signs and shoulders, and guardrails.

The federal funds are part of a Gulf Coast states emergency highway aid package approved by Congress late last year.
