• The Indiana Rail Road Co. has deployed 10East Corp.’s RailDOCS™ Preventive Maintenance Management System (PMMS). The regional will use PMMS to support preventive maintenance and government compliance logistics for signal requirements, including a tests and inspections system, configuration management system and plan management program. 10East provides RailDOCS to several other regionals and short lines, including the Paducah & Louisville Railway, Providence & Worcester Railroad Co. and Alaska Railroad Corp.
• After four months of prepping at the Velim rail testing center in the Czech Republic, Alstom Transport’s AGV has begun test runs at 223 mph on a 105-mile section of the eastern high-speed line between the Champagne-Ardenne and Lorraine stations. Alstom hopes to use the 12-day test runs to validate its “very-high speed” platform at commercial speed limits. The trainset’s 4,000 sensors will take measurements and compile data that will be analyzed by Alstom engineering staff.
• Thales AG obtained a contract from Oslo, Norway, public tranport operator Oslo KTP to launch a multi-modal contactless smart card e-ticketing system. A contactless transport card will be available for riders in early 2009. Thales will upgrade an existing paper ticketing system to an e-ticketing system for more than 525 buses, 72 trams, seven boats and 94 metro stations in the Norwegian capital and surrounding area.
• Retlif Testing Laboratories is marking its 30th anniversary. The company provides electromagnetic interference and environmental simulation testing and engineering services. Retlif also recently completed a $1 million expansion of its Ronkonkoma, N.Y., headquarters.
• RailComm Inc. has been ranked No. 1,194 on Inc. magazine’s “Inc. 5,000” list of the fastest-growing private companies in the United States. The ranking was based on RailComm’s revenue growth of 315.1 percent from 2004 to 2007. The software-based train control and rail management information system provider also was ranked 91st amongst the nation’s top software development companies. RailComm now has landed on the Inc. 5,000 list for two-straight years.
