• AECOM Technology Corp. won a $16 million contract from the Toronto Transit Commission to provide architectural and engineering services for the Sheppard West and Highway 407 stations that will be built as part of the $2.1 billion Toronto-York Spadina subway extension. To be completed in late 2015, the 5.4-mile, six-station extension will include stations at York University and the Vaughan Corporate Centre.

• BNSF Railway Co.’s CherokeeYard in Tulsa, Okla., has expanded an existing RailComm Inc. Domain Operations Controller (DOC®) system by adding remote-control derail and blue flag protection, and power switch automation capabilities. The yard has been using RailComm’s remote-control system to control derails and switches through a DOC system since 2005; the system was expanded last year. RailComm added a new workstation to work in conjunction with two existing ones. All three provide switch and derail control and monitoring capabilities.

• On Jan. 1, European rail logistics service provider and rail-car lessor VTG Aktiengesellschaft expects to strengthen its car leasing business in Poland through a collaboration with TRANSWAGGON subsidiary Waggon Service Sp. z.o.o. In addition, Millsharp Ltd. Sp. z.o.o. owner Seiji Kamide will retire at year’s end and cease operations in Poland. VTG had collaborated with Millsharp in the past. VTG plans to develop car leasing and maintenance support business in Poland, focusing on the market for chemical tank cars and freight cars.

• CommScope Inc.’s Andrew division obtained a contract to supply RADIAX® radiating cables to support wireless services for China’s Shijiazhuang-to-Taiyuan high-speed rail line. The cables will enable passengers to use phone, text messaging and other wireless services in tunnels. The RADIAX cables will be manufactured at Andrew’s Suzhou, China, plant. To open in 2009, the 18-mile, double-track line will be used for passenger and some freight traffic.
