Updates from Alstom, Greenbrier, Unitrac and TranSystems

• Alstom and Mexican partners ICA and CICSA won a contract from Mexico City's Transport Secretariat for the metro system's Line 12 project. Alstom will be responsible for electromechanical equipment, including electrification, substations, an operations control center, signaling, telecommunications and ticketing systems. ICA and CICSA will provide civil engineering services. Slated to open in late 2011, the 15-mile Line 12 will include 22 stations and link the Tlahuac and Mixcoac districts in the city's southern area.

• The Greenbrier Cos. reported revenue of $382 million in its fiscal third quarter, which ended May 31. The total was "virtually flat" compared with revenue from third-quarter FY2007, Greenbrier said. However, refurbishment and parts revenue increased 29 percent to $152.4 million. The company also reported net earnings of $8.1 million vs. $13 million in third-quarter FY07. Greenbrier's rail-car backlog stood at 17,500 units valued at $1.55 billion on May 31 compared with 18,800 units valued at $1.64 billion on Feb. 29.

• Unitrac Railroad Materials Inc. recently marked the opening of an expanded trackwork plant in Knoxville, Tenn. The facility produces specialty trackwork materials, including frogs, diamond crossings, switch points, transition/compromise rails and panelized turnouts.

• Engineering firm TranSystems Corp. has hired Mark Kotter as an independent consultant for business development within the rail group's Class I sector. Kotter recently retired from BNSF Railway Co. as vice president of customer integration after serving the Class I for 34 years. He previously served BNSF as VP of operations-Central Region, assistant VP of coal marketing and operations, AVP of transportation-Network Operations Center, division superintendent of operations, terminal superintendent and trainmaster.
