The rail supply/service provider industry is ripe with breaking developments:

• Faiveley Transport has acquired Carbone Lorraine's sintered brake material business. The newly integrated business will function as Faiveley Transport Gennevilliers, which will design and manufacture sintered friction materials used in high-energy braking systems, primarily for the rail industry. The acquisition will enable Faiveley Transport — a company controlled by Faiveley SA and Sagard — to offer a complete brake system.

• Pacer International Inc. has expanded intermodal services between its Pacer Stacktrain unit and BNSF Railway Co. Pacer Stacktrain will offer full double-stack service on BNSF's network, gaining access to the Class I's entire U.S. intermodal network for the first time. Pacer also will offer interline service to and from Pacer-served CSX Intermodal and Canadian National Railway Co. locations.

• German logistics firm and intermodal service provider TFG Transfracht is anticipating a 10 percent increase in container traffic this year. The company projects volume exceeding 1 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) and expanded coverage to and from points in Germany, Austria and Switzerland within the AlbatrosExpress rail network. TFG Transfracht has more than 15,000 connections annually and serves 20 terminals.

• Loram Maintenance of Way Inc. has promoted Jim Perkins to vice president of fleet operations; Tom DeJoseph, to VP of marketing and sales; and Justin Clarine, to director of North American sales. Perkins most recently was manager of railway services, DeJoseph has 10 years of railroading and 30 years of rail supply industry experience, and Clarine most recently was director of fleet operations. Loram provides railroad maintenance-of-way equipment and services.

• Union Tank Car plans to close its East Chicago, Ind., plant sometime this spring because of a declining tank-car market and operating costs associated with the older facility. The plant employs about 450 people.

• Engineering firm ARCADIS has acquired Elekol, a Polish company that provides railway infrastructure and transportation design, engineering and construction management services. The acquisition enables ARCADIS to offer more integrated and comprehensive services to Polish clients, such as designing the modernization and expansion of rail lines, the firm said.

• Bentley Systems Inc. appointed Harry Vitelli vice president of platform product management. He has more than 25 years' experience in software sales and the technology industry, and most recently was VP of alliances at Adobe Systems. Vitelli previously was senior director of product management for Adobe's Acrobat, Adobe Reader and PDF software lines. Bentley provides various transportation-related software, including railway maintenance products.

• Safety Vision has named Michael Ondruch chief financial officer. He previously held CFO posts at Victory Packaging and Academy Sports & Outdoors. Safety Vision provides mobile video systems, including onboard surveillance and collision-avoidance camera systems.

• The Greenbrier Cos. closed on its acquisition of American Allied Railway Equipment Co.'s assets for $83 million in cash and working capital adjustments. American Allied and its subsidiaries American Allied Freight Car Co. Inc. and American Allied Railway Equipment Co. South L.L.C. operate wheel and wheelset reconditioning facilities in Washington, Illinois and Georgia. Greenbrier also appointed James Cruckshank senior vice president and chief accounting officer. He most recently was chief financial officer and VP of administration for MathStar.

• MISCOR Group Ltd. named Edward Matheny vice president of sales and marketing for its repair, remanufacturing and manufacturing division. He most recently was global sales leader for GE Energy-Industrial Services.
