Here are four more developments in the rail industry supplier/service provider sector:

• GE - Transportation won a $96 million contract from Rotterdam Metro to modernize its signaling and communications system — the largest rail signaling project in GE's history and its first full-scale European metro project, the company said. A part of Rotterdamse Elektrische Tram in The Netherlands, Rotterdam Metro manages a 34-mile, double-track system with 48 stations that serves more than 88 million passengers annually. Scheduled to begin in spring 2009, the project calls for upgrading relay-based equipment and installing updated signaling technology.

• e-VERIFILE.COM Inc. has joined the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association. Officials from e-VERIFILE.COM will serve on the association's police committee, which guides members on issues and best practices surrounding safety, security and law enforcement initiatives. Developer of safety and security program e-RAILSAFE, e-VERIFILE.COM also is a member of the American Trucking Associations and American Public Transportation Association, and works with the Association of American Railroads in partnership with member railroads.

• CSC renewed an information technology (IT) outsourcing agreement with Bombardier Transportation. The new seven-year, $1.2 billion pact is an extension of a 2002 contract valued at $700 million. CSC will continue to provide Bombardier various IT services, such as desktop, service desk, network and application management services for more than 20,000 users in 33 countries.

• NOMAD Digital has partnered with the Utah Transit Authority to provide free onboard WiFi wireless service on FrontRunner trains. The WiFi contract is NOMAD's first full-scale commercial roll out in the United States, the company said. NOMAD worked with Wasatch Electric to install high-speed wireless broadband connections on 12 trains operating on the 40-mile commuter-rail line between Ogden and Salt Lake City.
