• Railpower Technologies Corp. has postponed the completion date of a new locomotive assembly plant in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, because of slower-than-anticipated sales. The company began building the facility in June and initially planned to complete it in first-quarter 2009. However, Railpower now doesn't expect to restart the project until "new significant orders are secured," the company said. "To our knowledge, no significant orders have been awarded by the large Class Is to any of the low-horsepower locomotive manufacturers in North America during the year," Railpower officials said.

• North American transportation and logistics service provider Pacer International has unveiled a new brand initiative aimed at more effectively "communicating the company's service capabilities and unified approach to the marketplace," and unifying services and operations under a single master brand, the firm said. Pacer also introduced a new logo and adopted the new tag line, "Making Your World Run Smoother."

• RailComm Inc. has provided a wireless derail system for Providence & Worcester Railroad Co. The system is remotely controlled by RailComm's Domain Operations Controller (DOC®) personal computer-based application. The company's 2.4 GHz Spread Spectrum RADiANT™ data radios establish wireless communications networks to link derail and office locations. Service tracks are protected by remote controlling the appropriate derail device with associated blue strobe light warning indication.

• Hexagon AB has promoted Ken Mooyman from senior vice president of sales-NAFTA to president and chief executive officer of Leica Geosystems Inc. He has more than 20 years' experience in the positioning system marketplace, including Global Positioning Systems and laser scanning technology. Leica Geosystems provides various products designed to capture, analyze and display spatial information, including an Amber Technologies family of rail and underground systems.
