Here are the latest developments in the rail supplier/service provider industry:

• As part of a regional sales and customer service reorganization, Union Tank Car Co. named Lee Locasto regional vice president of the eastern region; Don Flowers, regional VP of the western region; and Dave Murawski, regional VP of the Midwest region. All three will report to General Manager of Leasing William Constantino. The company also announced that VP of Sales and Customer Service Bill Snelgrove has stepped back from his day-to-day responsibilities. He will serve as an advisor to the UTLX leasing business unit and independently represent UTLX Manufacturing Inc. for the sale of new tank cars to other rail-car leasing companies.

• The Vossloh Group formally signed an agreement regarding the sale of its Vossloh Infrastructure Services unit to Eurovia S.A. The closing is subject to merger control approval by regulatory authorities. Vossloh previously received a binding bid from Eurovia for the unit, which builds and maintains railroad tracks, and installs overhead lines.

• Wabtec Corp. completed the acquisition of POLI S.p.A., a European rail braking equipment supplier, for $80 million in cash. Formed in 1816 and based in Italy, POLI has provided various braking-related components to the freight- and passenger-rail markets since 1952.

• Alstom won a contract to maintain 18 new Citadis trams for Dublin's light-rail system LUAS for five years. The contract includes an option for an additional six years. Alstom is building the trams at its La Rochelle, France, plant and will begin delivering units early next year. In addition, Alstom Signaling Inc. obtained a $32 million contract from LK Comstock to modernize MTA New York City Transit's signal system on the East 180th Street Yard/White Plains Road Line. LK Comstock is providing new train-control equipment at three NYCT locations under a four-year contract the company obtained from the subway operator in November 2007.

• Wi-Tronix® L.L.C. announced its remote monitoring equipment will be factory installed by Electro-Motive Diesel Inc. on 25 new SD70M-2 locomotives that will be delivered to Canadian National Railway Co. The equipment includes Wi-Tronix's Wi-Tracker™ system that’s designed to maximize locomotive asset utilization and reduce fuel usage, and Wi-DownloadER™, which can remotely access and download locomotive data. The equipment also will automatically monitor locomotive digital video recorder health and operating status.
