Wabtec Corp. subsidiary Wabtec Railway Electronics recently obtained a $5 million order from Canadian National Railway Co. for more than 500 high-productivity end-of-train (EOT) devices and related equipment.

Wabtec Railway Electronics will supply its TrainLink™ ATX ES EOTs, which are designed to enable engineers to apply regular or emergency brakes simultaneously at a train’s front and the rear. The units feature Global Positioning System technology and are powered by a small turbine generator to help reduce maintenance time and cost, and train delays. The company plans to begin delivering the devices in the fourth quarter.

“[Our] technology combines traditional pneumatic braking applications with electronics … [to] improve train handling, braking control and fuel efficiency,” said Robert Haag, Wabtec Railway Electronics vice president of programs, in a prepared statement.
