Crowley will launch a multimodal service between Mexico, the U.S. Midwest and Canada via inland connections by CN, the companies announced yesterday.

The combined network of the maritime, energy and logistics solutions company and CN will increase service solutions for global customers in North American markets, both companies said in a press release.

Starting in September, ships making a weekly roundtrip between Tuxpan, Mexico, and Mobile, Alabama, will carry up to 1,000 20-foot equivalent units and more than 200 refrigerated containers, Crowley officials said.

After transiting on Crowley's vessel from Mexico to the Port of Mobile, containers will be loaded onto daily CN trains traveling through the Midwest into Canada, offering rail service connecting Mobile to Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis, Memphis, Tennessee, and Canadian cities including Toronto and Montreal.

"We share similar values about providing solutions for complex supply chain needs and we are excited to support [Crowley's] first venture via the Port of Mobile into the United States and Canada," said CN Chief Marketing Officer Doug MacDonald. "The new service will enable more efficient supply-chain corridors and increased market access throughout North America."
