CN announced yesterday it has reached a tentative agreement to renew a contract with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) System Council 11 that covers 700 signals and communications employees in Canada.

Details of the agreement are being withheld pending ratification by the union's membership. CN anticipates learning the ratification vote results in May, according to a company press release.

On March 17, IBEW Council 11 filed a notice to strike effective at midnight today if negotiations with CN did not reach a tentative settlement. The current contract expired Dec. 31 2016, according to Council 11's website.
